Jillian C. Thomas earned her BA in Gender Studies at the University of Southern California and her MS in Marital and Family Therapy from The Family Institute at Northwestern University. She completed her clinical training at The Family Institute's Bette D. Harris Family and Child Clinic, where she worked with individuals, couples, and families. Jillian also gained experience in working with groups at Howard Brown Health Care through their Lesbian Community Care Project. Jillian specializes in working with pre-marital and long term couples, life and relationship satisfaction, sex and intimacy issues, as well as depression, trauma, anxiety, life transitions, and LGBTQ issues.
Jillian's approach to therapy is strengths-based and client-centered; by focusing on one's own resources and relationships, clients can be empowered to reach their goals and affect change in their lives. Jillian also believes that a positive and empathic therapeutic relationship is the key to healing and growth, and seeks to incorporate cutting edge research from the fields of attachment theory and interpersonal neurobiology into her clinical practice. Jillian encourages her clients to take ownership of their therapeutic experience, creating a collaborative and challenging environment where they can truly create lasting growth.
In addition to a background in Marriage and Family Therapy, Jillian is also a certified Prepare-Enrich Facilitator. Prepare-Enrich is an empirically validated assessment tool that helps identify a couple’s strengths and growth opportunities. Although often used in pre-marital counseling, Prepare-Enrich is a valuable supplement to any couple’s counseling and can enhance your understanding and connection with your partner.
