Alison O’Hara, Psy.D., is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist at Symmetry Counseling. She holds both a Master’s degree and Doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology.
Dr. O’Hara provides therapy to individuals experiencing:

Relationship difficulties

Issues with self-esteem

Life transitions and adjustment

Substance abuse

Symptoms of anxiety and/or depression

Traumatic events

Issues related to sexuality and gender development

Dr. O’Hara’s therapeutic approach emphasizes how our most personal perspectives on life and relationships are informed by our past experiences, where we are currently, and our hopes for the future. She strives to create an open environment to allow access to the meaning of these experiences and explore the impact this meaning has on our everyday lives.

Conversations within the framework of therapy tend to promote symptom reduction and a better sense of self-awareness. One goal of therapy is to become more thoughtful about decision-making and learn how to apply critical thinking in more diverse ways. Clients tend to report a deeper understanding of the way in which they perceive themselves and their relationships with others. Dr. O’Hara is a believer in the journey of self-discovery toward a more peaceful and balanced life.
