Sherry believes that everyone, at one time or another, faces obstacles that disrupt their pursuit of a happy, healthy life. She feels that, at it’s core, therapy is simply a process where you can gain tools to help resolve those current and longstanding obstacles. Sherry believes that you are the expert on your life and views therapy as a collaboration between client and therapist.
Therapy works when clients feel they can trust their therapist, that the client feels supported, understood and accepted. Being comfortable while moving towards your goals, whether it’s
improving relationships, your health and general well being, is essential. Therefore, Sherry strives to make a therapeutic environment that is warm, compassionate and non-judgmental promoting an atmosphere where clients can work towards those goals in their own time and at their own pace.
Sherry uses practical, solution-focused strategies from the best practices of various therapy models, including psychoeducation, cognitive behavioral therapy, and psychodynamic theory. Having implemented a Family Psychoeducation (FPE) program at a community mental health organization in Chicago, Sherry has had experience working with and supporting individuals who have experienced severe and persistent mental illness and their families. She has consulted on the state level with practitioners seeking to implement FPE programs and supervised interns on the program and it’s treatment.
Sherry’s clinical specialties include relationship and family issues, anxiety and mood disturbances, life stage transitions, addiction, co-occurring disorders, adult children issues (ACoA) and shame.
Sherry earned her Master of Social Work from University of Illinois, Chicago. Her clinical training has occurred in a wide variety of settings including residential, out-patient, and community mental health.
