From Yu’s perspective, many clients came to therapy due to their struggles, but then they surprisingly realized they knocked on the door of self-exploration and deep growth.
In the past, Yu provided individual and group therapy for clients with diverse backgrounds. Yu devotes herself to providing a safe and warm environment with her empathetic support, and empowering clients to develop self-awareness, insights, and effective strategies to move through barriers and cultivate resilience. Being inspired by her cross-cultural experience, Yu keeps a very open-minded and non-judgemental stance to understand each client’s unique life experiences. Yu believes every individual has the potential to live a life worth living, and she’s willing to help clients to heal traumas, find the inner voices, build deep connections with themselves and others, and make actions committed to their values.
Rooted in psychodynamic approach, Yu also received systematic training in evidence-based treatments –Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Yu tailors treatment and therapy goals to cater to each client’s needs in different stages of therapy. Yu is good at bringing mindfulness and Zen Practice into therapy and also helping clients clarify their values, to ease the anxieties from uncertainty.
Yu specializes in working with adult clients with extensive presenting concerns including trauma, emotion regulation, cross-cultural issues, low self-esteem/self-worth, life transitions, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, stress management, and grief & loss.
Yu received her master’s degree in Counseling from Northwestern University. Yu also had one-year intensive theoretical and clinical training on Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) from Mindfulness and Behavioral Therapy Clinic at The Family Institute.
